Language is extremely relational. We use communication to initiate and maintain and even terminate relationships with other people. Language is also about more than just the words we use though. Language is about instigating emotions inside of the listener's mind utilizing tonality, the rate at which we speak, how well we articulate or not, and so forth. Language may also tell us how well we are perceived in relation to another individual. There is a social hierarchy scale that is often maintained and is inherently used within the language that we specifically use to communicate to other people. The language Hendy for example exemplifies this point well. In Hindi there are certain nouns you used to address people who are regarded as high status individuals. There are also nouns and pronouns which are used to represent someone you are speaking with who represents a lower status in society from yourself. There are also pronouns used to show greater intimacy and less intimacy when communicating relationally with others. Wish we utilize marker words such as server or ma'am to indicate respect for someone we are communicating with who represents being a perfect stranger, a client, or someone we should hold in high regard and higher status or equal status from our self. Utilizing the word man or guys might be used in context that are much less formal wear sir or ma'am would be less expected to be used.
